Should You Upgrade to Windows 11? Our Opinion – Not Just Yet.

Should You Upgrade to Windows 11? Our Opinion – Not Just Yet.

At this point, you have probably seen a commercial on television or read something online about the release of Microsoft’s newest operating system – Windows 11. The new OS boasts a brand-new look and feel, along with some fancy productivity tools. But it also adds some security features that should be beneficial long-term. With that being said, we wanted to provide our thoughts on why Windows 11 isn’t ready for a complete rollout in your business environment.

  • Certain components of your existing computer hardware and its associated resources may not allow you to effectively install Windows 11.
  • Windows 11 may not be compatible with all mainstream applications and associated plugins. Once the new OS is installed, certain apps may have to be heavily modified or reinstalled to work properly.
  • 3rd party peripherals may not work as expected – things like docks, webcams, Bluetooth devices, etc.
  • If Windows 11 is downloaded/installed and has issues, in most cases, you can’t simply roll back to Windows 10. You’ll have to completely wipe the operating system and reinstall Windows 10…which is like setting up a brand-new PC.
  • Windows 10 is still the most widely used operating system in the marketplace and is very stable at this point. On top of that, Windows 10 will be supported by Microsoft until October 14th, 2025, and will continue to receive regular security patches and updates and promote a secure user experience.

Our stance and perspective on the Windows 11 operating system mirrors that of our industry vendors, partners, and peers across the IT service ecosystem. Our goal is to deliver a secure, stable, consistent experience for our clients and their businesses and Windows 10 gives us the best opportunity to deliver.

Most likely, we’ll start seeing more normal adoption of Windows 11 in 2023. Like the Windows 7 to 10 migration, businesses will slowly allow the new operating system to saturate their environment as hardware is refreshed. This will allow for proper testing and evaluation in each particular environment.

Even though you might be tempted to install the shiny new operating system now, the best play is to align with that old familiar saying that you should ‘dance with the one that brought you.’
